Study in Canada

A study permit allows an international student to study in Canada at one of the country’s world-renowned, accredited institutions. If you are planning to study abroad in Canada as a student, you will need to successfully obtain your permit to attend your desired school.

At Sharkish Immigration Inc., we understand the value of a quality education and the importance this can have on the rest of your future. It’s our passion and focus to make sure you meet the requirements and have the right guidance at the right times of the process to successfully obtain your study permit.

When is A Study Permit Required for Canada?

Study permits are issued to students who are coming to study in Canada at a designated learning institution (DLI). They allow students to attend these institutions and obtain recognized degrees, diplomas, or certificates.

A study permit is valid for the duration of time you are attending your chosen school and for 90 days after you are finished. In the event that you complete your studies before it expires, it will be valid up to 90 days after you are notified of completion (through a letter, diploma, or other certificate), regardless of the date originally issued on the permit. If you do not complete your studies before your permit expires, you will need to apply for an extension. If your permit has expired before you apply for an extension, you will be required to restore your status as a student before you can continue.

What is a Designated Learning Institution (DLI)?

A DLI is a school or institution that has been approved to host international students by the provincial or municipal government. To obtain a study permit, you must be attending a DLI from the official list.

All primary and secondary schools in Canada are automatically classified as DLIs, but not every post-secondary or graduate school is included. To determine if your intended school is on the DLI list, you can check the official list at any time through the Government of Canada website.

After your studies are complete, you may apply to work through the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program. However, the private institutions are not qualified for this program, and there are additional requirements you will need to meet to be approved.
