What are the Provincial Nominee Programs?
The Provincial Nominee Programs are immigration programs offered through the Government of Canada wherein immigrants may seek application to a specific province in Canada to help fill gaps in the economy and shortages in the labour force within that province. Through these programs, the applicant will apply if they meet their intended province’s criteria, and successful candidates will receive a nomination by that province to gain permanent residency in Canada.
Each province has its own set of criteria and processes that target specific immigrant groups depending on the needs of that province and the type of skilled workers they are looking for. This may include people such as skilled workers, business people, semi-skilled workers, or students, depending on the province’s industries and economy.
How to Apply For The Provincial Nominee Programs
To apply for permanent residency under the Provincial Nominee Programs, an applicant must use the following steps:
- Show interest in a province or territory and submit an Expression of Interest (EOI)
- Meet that province’s criteria or requirements under the appropriate immigration stream via the points-based system
- If you are successful, receive a nomination from the province or territory
- Apply for permanent residency through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)
